Wart Removal Home Remedies
Home remedies for wart removal, like many home remedies, have various degrees of success and efficacy.
So many people all across the world have found themselves bearing a wart on some part of their body at one time or another. For many sufferers the irritation of having warts can become so frustrating that they’ll try anything to get rid of their problem. This leads to a wide range of home remedies for the removal of different types of warts, some of which may work well and others that may well do you more harm than good.
One of the more popular home remedies is the application of duct tape. This method has even had scientific research leading to a reasonable explanation as to why it actually works, but first be sure to use the right type of duct tape! One scientific study attempted to debunk the myth of Duct Tape Wart Removal, but it turns out they used an obscure type of clear duct tape, not the regular silver type most people would think of. It turns out some duct tape contains a small amount of salicylic acid in the adhesive, which just so happens to be the active ingredient in most prescription and over the counter wart removal treatments. The treatment method is similar to that of a gel patch, place the tape over the wart, leave for a few days and after taking the tape off remove any dead skin with an abrasive tool. Usually this would be repeated around 3 or 4 times and many people have had success with this. Another theory why this works other than some tapes containing small amounts of the active acid, is that placing the strong adhesive on the skin stimulates the immune system increasing the bodies ability to fight off the wart infection.
Some people will try the most obscure of methods to get rid of warts. One old wives tale involves taking a slice off a potato, and then burying the potato, only to dig it up a week later hopefully wart free. Other methods might hold a bit more scientific value, such as wrapping the wart infected area in banana peel. It has been found that the inside of a bananas skin also contains small amounts of salicylic acid. Soaking warts in vinegar is a widespread method that could also hold value due to its acidic properties, and this can also be said about a number of other home remedies that have been reported to remove warts, like tomato juice or cauliflowers. Lots of fruit and vegetables have acidic content, although it can just as easily be the case when treating with these methods that the persons own immune system ended up combating off the infection.
Tea tree oil is a common natural home remedy used by many to aid with lots of different ailments including warts. It does have antiseptic value and lots of research has been done on tea tree oil, however its antiviral properties have yet to be documented which brings to question its true effectiveness in combating warts.
Without using anything else many sufferers have success by simply sticking to a regime of soaking and scrubbing. Taking a bowl of hot water and soaking the wart infected area for a good while loosens the skin and pores, and can potentially aid in killing the virus. Once left for a good soak using an abrasive tool again such as a pumice stone can remove the wart over time.
